Recipe: Sore Throat remedy

Great recipe for sore throats, a little in boiling water or tea.

Sliced Lemon, Ginger (peeled and shaved), honey

Sterile Jar

Will last for 2 to 3 months, store in fridge.

Getting ready for flu season!

This would make a good Christmas Gift too.

WIP Weds: OMG! How Bazaar, and Christmas is coming!

Good Morning all! It’s Wednesday yet again. Happy to report that “Harley” my Gio-bike has returned from the shop. So I am motoring around town again.

The weather is becoming cooler here in south central, Ontario, Canada. The Annual Apple festival was on Saturday.

(bet you can’t guess what the farms grow around here :0)

The trees have begun to turn. Autumn is in full swing..

The Annual Church Bazaar is at the end of the month and I am still in christmas present high gear (only 69 days to go).

Sorry, wee bit long today, lots to share!

Progress on my 3 wips:

October Socks:

October socks and current book ”Mr Darcy takes a Wife” by Linda Berdoll – great follow-up to “Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen! (see review further down)

Drop Stitch Scarf:

Drop stitch scarf – truly yummy yarn! Sorry poor pic…

Oaklet Shawl:

Oaklet shawl with beads - about to but in the monofilament safety Line (8lbs fishing line) before starting the lace section of the pattern.

I bought “Nifty Knit Dishcloths” this week.

I plan to knit a facecloth, and gift them with a bar of soap in each stocking this year. Well that’s the plan!

Book this week: Mr Darcy Takes a Wife by Linda Berdoll

Ever wondered what happened after Pride and Prejudice? This is a really delightful read, evidence I am reading it again. Wickham and Lydia continue in their selfish ways. Jane and Bingley are very happy. Mrs Bennet would still try the patience of a saint! Elizabeth and Darcy are very much in love. Realize, Miss Austen probably wouldn’t have continued the book in this way as she was a maiden lady, born in 1775 and died in 1817. This book is a much more contemporary and intimate portrait than would be acceptable at the time. A totally delightful and slightly racy read.

Music: As promised Gregorian Chant. I think this the hymns of St-Hildegarde of Bigen, I hope you like it, it’s very soothing.

Webwalk: “23 weird but awesome knitted things” (think outside the box)

and finally a Willow break :0)

Her Willowness looking quite regal, she was fed up with all the Jack pictures and insisted on a portrait of furry purrrfection :0)

FO: Christmas Decorations as promised

Winter has arrived, we had major flurries on Weds. and it is getting cold enough to wear the winter, winter coat as opposed to the fall coat or the winter coat.  We also have a basement, upstairs, and an up-upstairs. Did I ever  tell you we are a bit of an odd family? Well back to the preparations for Christmas. This will be the first year MiL will come here for Christmas eve dinner (my DH is of german extraction) at 85 yrs she has finally passed the torch to us, as BiL in not kitchen friendly. DH is taking great pleasure planning and replanning the festive dinner for his Mom.  On Christmas day it will be dinner with my parents (I am of english extraction). It is amazing how well it has worked out over the years, never any conflict over who to go to when at Christmas, and we have always lived close enough to make the trip to each house a pleasure.  My brother is not so lucky as SiL’s family is in the states so we only see them for Christmas every other year, and this is not the year… I always miss them when they don’t come up from Wisc.

Well, here are the promised Christmas Decorations, beware they are really addictive!

First 3 Christmas Balls

Also finished One of the Hats

Darling Hubby was so nice as to model :0)

Event: CP Holiday Train

Pictures from local paper, it was too dark for my camera

We have a tradition in  Bowmanville, my parents home is in the perfect location on the edge of town to see this magical event. This monday the CP (Canadian Pacific) Christmas Train made its way through your lovely little town. For several years now, friends and family gather, bringing the first of the home-made christmas treats to share and visit. As the time draws near all the lights are turned out as chairs are positioned at the windows to wait for the train to pass.  We watch the train tunnel, barely visible in the darkness, till the head light on the train shines through to tell us it is coming.  The train comes rolling down the track, all coloured Christmas lights and movement. Each year this is the beginning of the Christmas season for me. Please read the attached article and make a donation to your local food bank this season.

FO Friday: Tah Dah!

Good Morning all, nice to see ya :0)

Finally finished the Christmas Sock, miracle of miracles before Christmas! Will be presented stuffed with small presents.

Look here for details.

Christmas Stocking

Not really impressed with the gusset instructions, basically there were none!!!! This is not a pattern for a beginner it is not clear! The charts are good but, I would give this pattern a poor rating otherwise.  Experience required. However I have to admit, I am delighted with the end result.

Pattern: Light Foot from Red Bird knits

Knit on 4.5mm circ in Kertzer Northern Worsted.

Well that’s all for this week.  Visit Tami’s blog for more FO Fridays.

FO Friday: Another Dicky

Hello nice to see you :0)

It has been a wet week here in Ontario Canada. Needless to say the garage is still not painted. However the boys are happy enough to put it off.

As mentioned on Wednesday I have finished another Dicky. This one is in Aran weight yarn, Cascade 220 on 5mm needles.

2 of 4 Dickies in various weights of yarn

I have noticed that some of you have been recording what you have been reading and have decided to share my current book too.

The Rogue Hunter by Lynsay Sands, this is number 10 of 16 in the Argeneau Series about an immortal family of vampires. This author has a wicked sense of humour. I have just purchased the most recent book and have enjoyed rereading the the previous ones in preparation to read the new ones. If you want to view my reading list for 2011 look here.

For more more FO Friday pop over to to Tami’s Blog and see what others have been making this week. Thanks for visiting and come back soon :0)

WIP & Event: Three little spinners go to the fair

This weekend G, B and I went to the fair to spend our day doing spinning demonstrations. What a delight, there was a bumper crop of attendees this year! Spent all day in the Bunny Barn talking to visitors, and watching the bunny judging. Then running around picking up my competition items.

I must apologize, I realized after I arrived at the fair my camera was at home, and my cellphone pictures where terrible. I hope that one of the others will post pictures that so I can link to them.

Presenting this years winners

I was spinning another Silver Cloud delight, some finger roving with a stripe of cream and a stripe of cinnamon. It spun like a dream! I will post pictures when I get further on in the spinning process.

Meanwhile an update on my Immie Blanket I have wanted to knit a frost flower patterned something for awhile. So without thinking things through, the bright little thing that I am, I started this thinking what a great thing to work on at Knittin club. Ha ha ha, pattern works both sides with repeats of 1/2 the pattern of 4 rows 3 times and the remaining 4 rows 3 times repeat 24 rows 3 times. Ya, I work on this when the guys are tucked up in their beds. However it is coming along and I am enjoying it.

Sorry it is a bit dark, but the flash removed the detail. I am rather happy with this.

This week I’m also back to knitting for the Bazaar. XL Coffee cup sweaters, if you are interested here is the free download. It is my own pattern, so feel free to share it around if you want.

A Coffee Cup Sweater, protects fingers and keeps cup warm, washable and a stash buster!

Well thanks for visiting again, as always a delight to see you. Please stop by and visit our friends at Tami’s Blog and enjoy their WIP’s
