Event: St Georges Craft Sale

Well, another highly successful Craft Sale at St Georges Church, Newcastle, Ontario Canada.

Thanks to all the worker bees and to all the visitors and purchasers. We will have that wheelchair ramp in no time at all! Raised $700.00 + :0)

We provided complimentary Coffee, Iced Tea, Juice and a treat.

The Silent Auction was a real success, a great response

We also had a Craft supply table with Odd balls of yarn, knitting needles and some patterns. We also had a donation of Beach towels.

This was only part of the stuff the Craft Group produced to raise funds for a wheel chair ramp into the all.

Having a cuppa and visiting. Then back to work!

FO Friday: Celebrations and Convocations!

Yesterday was an exciting day, my DS (Darling Son) the University Graduate had his Convocation.  He now has his Bachelor of Arts Honours in English Literature Degree.

This was an outdoor event. It was very cold and overcast,  fortunately the rain held off until we were on our way home.  It was wonderful anyway!  

My awesome son!

He was also selected to be published!  “The Machine Among the Trees: Essays on Contemporary Canadian Poetry” for Advanced Studies in Canadian Literature. We are very proud!

Well I am as ready as I will ever be for the craft sale tomorrow. We are setting up today and open tomorrow at 11:00 am.

WIP Wed: Up to my elbows in Alligators!

First my 29th anniversary is this week, amazing my DH has survived intact, no knife wounds or bullet holes in either of us and we are still together. At 24 years old who would have guessed that he would be the one right decision I would make. He is still my sweetheart and I will love him forever :0)

For a friend and knitting crony, who is having chemo. Buddies at knittin nite at the LYS are making her hats :0)

Currently reading: Evelina or the History of a Young Lady’s Entrance into the World is by Frances Burney It is one of the novels mentions in Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen. This novel is epistolary, a series of letters, a style I enjoy.

Trent Durham Area Day of Celebration 2013

Trent Durham Area Day of Celebration 2013

I attended last year and enjoyed it so much,

I was looking forward to going this year.

It started with registration from 8:30 to 9:30 (I was a little late but still managed to enjoy a coffee before it started)

Then into St Peter’s Anglican Church, Cobourg. A really beautiful old Victorian church, light and airy with impressive stainglass and marble memorials. The service began at 9:40.

This years theme was “Hidden Treasure: Discovering Gods Kingdom”

An excellent band “Wine before breakfast” from Wycliffe College lead us with music.(I have linked the versions of the hymns where I could find them)

The Service opened with the Gathering of the Community,

Plenary “A Romp Through the Bible” – Dr.Sylvia Keesmat A delightful sprint though the themes in the bible, done with hand drawn bristle board pictures, clothes pegs and a clothes line… great presentation!

11:15 Then off to my first workshop: Praying the rosary with Deb Irwin & Lyn Bradshaw. Great presentation, last year Deb Irwin gave the workshop on making Rosaries that I attended. This was a great follow-up. I make Protestant Rosaries for fundraisers, but I couldn’t help myself, I bought this one.

This is a Protestant Rosary. Unlike a Catholic Rosary, there are 7 beads (weeks) between the cruciform beads.

12:15 We adjourned for lunch. Coffee and a box containing a choice of sandwich, in my case egg salad, olives and pickles, a small bag of raw veggies with cheese, an apple and a chocolate brownie, and coffee. Nice conversation with people at my table.

Then off to the book table. “Journeys: Books, Gifts and Meeting Place” is a new Anglican Bookstore that is attempting to fill the gap left when the ABC Bookstore closed. I liked their selection, bought an NRSV Bible and Beginning Prayer by John Killinger

At 1:00 Workshop two began: The Kingdom of God in Icons. Well researched and lovely visual presentation. Discussion of symbolism, history, the nature and use of Icons in prayer and meditation. The art was stunning!

At 2:15, back into the church to finish the celebration of the Eucharist.

It is Good Friday and I’m off to church again. As I will not be posting tomorrow, I will take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy Easter!

It has been a busy week, what with Holy Week, knitting and the various groups I belong to. However I did manage to finish my

WIP Weds: Old pattern renewed…

Holy week is keeping me busy; Holy Wednesday today, Maunday Thursday, Good Friday, Saturday Easter Vigil, and Easter Sunday. Our Choir is singing at most of the services. Tuck in a Craft Group meeting, a Bible Study and a Knittin Club meeting. So I might be a little pokey with my next posting. If I don’t see you, wishing you and yours a Happy Easter!

WIP Weds: Good news and treats!

Good morning all!

First of all, I am delighted to report that the St.George’s Craft Sale was a great success. We made more that ever before. We are well on our way to a wheelchair ramp for the church hall. Our small group is very pleased, and we are already thinking of having another in the New Year. :0)

Things are improving on the cold front. I was very disappointed that I could not attend the Craft Sale. I am recovering slowly, but bugs seem to like to hang around and tire me out. My fellas are both better, and taking great care of me and Willow and Jack have been snoozing with me.

FO Friday: If it’s not one thing it’s another!

Well, this week has been a total disaster! Missed Craft goup, Knittin club, Physiotherapy, and looks like I will not be going to the St. Georges craft sale or church on Sunday. Since I married 28yrs ago, I have been sick 21 times at Christmas :0(

FO Friday: Finally, the finish line! Almost!

Hello all, yet another busy week.

It began with the a visitors on Saturday, out of town Christening on Sunday, trips to the vet, craft group, physio, Advent study, and knitting lots of knitting.

The Ladies knitting and crocheting, I need to get a picture of the quilters too. This is the only photo I have, sorry girls.

The plans for the Craft sale are well on the way. The signs are up and ads are in the papers. The ladies are making last minute items, and arranging for baked goods. We are still raising funds for a wheelchair ramp into our 157 yr old church hall.
