FO Fri: Happy Victoria Day Weekend from Canada!

Victoria Day (in French: Fête de la Reine) is a federal Canadian public holiday celebrated on the last Monday before May 25, in honour of Queen Victoria‘s birthday. The date is also, simultaneously, that on which the current reigning Canadian sovereign‘s official birthday is recognized. It is sometimes informally considered as marking the beginning of the summer season in Canada. The holiday has been observed since before Canada was formed, originally falling on the sovereign’s actual birthday, and continues to be celebrated in various fashions across the country on the fixed date.

Your Wingspan is gorgeous! You must be thrilled with it!

Around here it’s the May 2-4 weekend. I can do without the royal family but definitely will be enjoying a beer or two on the long weekend at the cottage!

I have to admit I am a fan of constitutional monarchy, I like the Queen, I admire anyone who would dedicate their life in service to the common wealth, giving up the majority of their private and family life. There is something to be said for dignity that tip toes through diplomatic minefields, and has no political agenda. Yes there have been monarchs that were duds, but they are trainned to their responsiblities, you cannot say that about politicians.
