WIP Weds: The Craft Fair and other projects

Hello all, I missed you last week.

Totally exhausted but totally worth it!

The whole event came together at the last minute.

On Thursday we had almost nothing for the bake table. I didn’t know what to do, we had advertised a Bake table. On Saturday morning people started coming with goodies, lots of goodies. This ended up being one of our most successful tables.  I am really happy to announce that we are well on our way to building the much needed ramp to our church hall!

A friend, Wilfred Reinke   aka “Oshawa Ogre” designed and produced our Craft Sale banner and the Kittens with Mittens Banner too.

St. George being a 12th century saint, Freddy used 12th century script :0)

Thanks Freddy, I highly recommend him if you need a Banner.

Funny, you’ll never guess what I almost sold out on. Yes Untangles! I guess I’ll be knitting more of these for the Christmas Bazaar :0)

St George’s Craft Sale July 21/12 Bake table

The Bake table, and there was more to arrive!

My mother paints china, tats, knits and sews.

There is a full table on the right.

My Mom, I am so proud of her. She is a brilliant and talented artist.

My Mother handpaints china, beautiful birds and flowers.

Isla Skye and Dragonfly

Anne, a member of our church did a spectacular table with jewellry and ornaments.

The Craft Group, but together a lovely table,

Joan and Rose of the Weds morning Craft Group, and George W of the AMC in the kitchen getting ready for the exspected crowds. Dad is around the corner.

and my Father and the “Anglican Men’s Club” aka the boyz in blue, sold Coffee, Iced Tea and Cookies.

I just wanted to say thanks to all of you that showed up and supported our (hopefully)1st  Annual St. George’s Craft Sale.
It was a long day and lots of work, but well worth it.
I also want to thank all those talented people who baked, knitted, jewellried, china painted, sewed, jammed, and coffeed, we wouldn’t have been able to pull it off without you.

With all it’s highs and lows with the process of organizing this event, it says a lot that we are already talking about doing it again next year!

Now a touch of knitting

I wanted something to wear with jeans

Easy Peazy Shawl, and it certainly is!

Ok, I am really not enjoying this! Don’t feel comfortable with the inc, dec, at the end and beginning of the back and forth rows. I keep mixing up which end to do what. It is defeating me… this looks frog worthy. Help! We’ll see…

FO Friday: One week tomorrow, the Craft Fair

One week tomorrow, the Craft Fair, I think my projects for sale are almost done. Now to everything else.

Ok did I mention that the Craft Fair committee started off as three people. Well long story short, looks like two are left, but only one organizer. The other is knee-deep in wedding stuff. No problem, friends and family are pulling together.

We forge on to raise money for Wheelchair access for our churches 1856 Hall. Funny all the years this church has existed, I guess the challenged people like me, have had to climb the steep steps or not go into the hall. Did I point out that the hall has the only washrooms available. Luckily the church itself has level access. It is a truly lovely old building, with beautiful interior, and splendid stainglass.

St George’s Church, Newcastle Ont, Cda

That is our Hall to the right.

I am doing a table myself, so in last few weeks I made 10 untangles, and 11 XL coffee cup sweaters. Most of the items on the table will be the shawls and baby things I have knitted over the last year.

10 Untangles!

Coffee Cup Sweaters

11 XL coffee cup sweaters, one more to do!

I think I am knitting these in my sleep.

I cannot believe I knit all these since June 13, 2012

Now back to organizing signs, bake sales, tables and set-up.

Not sure if I will have time to post next week,

sorry first time I have missed a week since I started posting.

I hope to have good news about our Craft Fair the following week!

WIP Weds: Five reasons to join a Kal group :0)

Wednesday again, I hope you had a lovely weekend. I have come down with a nasty cold. The usual suspects, runny nose and eyes, and plenty of sneezing.  Jack finds my nose fascinating and Willow has been sleeping on my bed, keeping me company.

Luckily summer coughs usually don’t last long.

The upside is more knitting time!

Last february I joined the Carry Along Kal forum on Since then I have completed 9 projects with them.

  1. Wingspan KAL May
  2. Chinook scarf KAL May
  3. Untangled #9 KAL Jul

The 5 reasons to join a Kal group

  • Even if you can find a local knitting group, an online group offers constant support, ideas and encouragement.
  • The group I am a member of, votes for 3 possible projects each month. So there is flexiblity about how many and which ones you want to do. There are also special projects like teamcarryalongkalgals2012 for the ravellenic2012
  • I have found patterns I would not normally do, like the Chinook scarf. I don’t usually work in Dk yarn.
  • I have learned some new techniques. Mimi Kezer moebius cast-on which was easier than first exspected.
  • To encourage and support others, and see their efforts.

I have really enjoyed being a member of this Kal and recommend it to anyone that knits!

Books: Just finished another Nero Wolfe by Rex Stout

Triple Jeopardy

Three short stories: Home to Roost, The Cop Killer, anf The Spuirt and the Monkey.  I had not read this one before, and really enjoyed it. I seem to be on a Nero Wolfe jones lately, not sure which I will read next.

FO Friday: Untangled and more Cup sweaters

Hello all, so nice of you to visit again :0)

Voting continues for a pattern to knit my nifty skein from the “Candy Skein Birthday draw”.  I am going to start this project after the olympics.

I am entered as part of ravellenic2012 teamcarryalongkalgals2012. Here is my project page if you want to follow progress, starting with the opening of the games July 27th and concluding with the closing ceremonies. Wish me luck, I am actually not really good at deadlines, life usually gets in the way.

This week managed to finish the last of the “Untangled’s” I planned to make!

Untangled #7

These were made out of my stash of leftovers

Untangled #8

I switched to fingering for the last 2

Untangled #9

And last but not least!

Untangled #10

I may have to do 3 more in August for DS, girlfriend of DS and Niece :0(

Meanwhile Coffee Cup sweater production was slowed down by the sale of two. This week I made.

WIP Weds: Squee! Look what came in the mail!

We had a great long weekend! Lots of food, friends and fireworks.  The weather has been glorious, between 28 and 34c, just a little cloudiness.

The real news! DH went to the  mailbox and happy dance, there was a parcel from Tami <wiggle with delight> I just love it!

I was the one of the lucky ducks that won the Candy Skein Birthday draw!

Think, think, think, what shall I make?

The Parcel!

My picture just doesn’t do it justice, shades of Lucerne green to something close to Sea-foam green.

Looking for vote here, 465yds of delicious fingering, ideas welcome

2 more Untangleds to do, and someone bought 2 of my coffee cup sweaters, so two more to do of them too. Only 17 days to the fundraiser!

That’s another story, down to 2 organizers, myself and a friend Ratz! My darling guys have stept into the breach to give a hand setting up tables etc.

This event is for a much-needed ramp for wheelchair access to our Church hall. We forge on!

Kelp Forest Shawlette continues
