WIP Weds: Knit night & The curse continues

????????????????????????????

I hosted the Knit Nite Girlz Summer Edition last Wednesday, (10 plus 2 infants). What a great group! I particularly want to thank SH for finally getting the fire started, DH for making his delicious Oatmeal Apricot Cranberry Cookies and DS for setting up and putting everything away. By the Bye our knitting smells like smoke, thank goodness it’s washable.

Remember that shawl with the curse. It continues! Soaked it out in the wash, so I got a little distracted… what started as soak ended up being jean wash cycle, OH NOOOS! Rescued it from mechanical malling. Pinned it out on the kitchen table so I could keep and eye on it. Ok I’m human, so I needed to step away to the WC… one furry felon hanging from a hanging thread at the cast off, the other laying in the middle needing it like there was no tomorrow. Contemplating violin strings!

Wonderful Weds: Blocking the life out of it?

knit art 6 (1)

Hello, well I am hosting the summer edition of Knit Night for our local knitting group. So needless to say I am looking at my house in despair. Can I tidy up this place sufficiently not to be totally embarrassed.  DH, my hero, got up early and lowed/whipper snipped the garden and set up the fire pit. If the weather remains nice, that’s where we will be, if not it’s the livingroom. DS is busy making Oatmeal Apricot/Cranberry Cookies for the girls as he calls them.

Good news!

I finished Glamshell shawl

Actually Buttermere needs blocking too. Jack has offered to help...

WIP Wednesday: I’m in a hat mood

Winters coming! Knit hats in summer for Canadian winter :0)

because wool fixes everything

My love affair with socks has wained a bit…it was fast and furious and I’m just now coming up for air. Who could have known socks could be so…so…all consuming?! You sock knitters are a special breed, let me tell you!

Don’t get me wrong, sock knitting is still a great interest, but I’ve managed to break away long enough to realized I’ve been neglecting my first true love.

hats.

And…winter is coming. Yes it may be +30* Celsius most days! but every good Canadian knows that won’t last much longer. And being a camper, let me just tell you there are many a night I’ve donned a hat around the campfire.

With this in mind (winter is coming! I’d make a good Stark ;)) I decided to cast on a beautiful DK fall hat.

Loch, by tin can knits is a perfect fall hat. A bit lacy, it’s fun…

Miss May off the needles!

Wonderful FO by my friend Knit in the square :0)

because wool fixes everything

Miss May was one of those knits that I fell in love with the pattern a while ago, and was hoarding it waiting for the right wool to come along. Thankfully that perfect wool finally came along when I saw tanis fiber arts new colour way, papaya! It was a marriage made in heaven

20140716-095455-35695232.jpg

Miss May was all charted, which I love. Super simple to follow…I actually finished the last chart during the day, with kids awake and running in and out of the house!

20140716-095623-35783158.jpg

The pattern calls for a full 400m of fingering wool, so I knit right to pattern without any mods. Looking back, I wish I had knit a repeat (or two!) of the second chart because I had lots of wool left over and the shawllette isn’t as deep as I had hoped

I admit to second thoughts about wearing the colour. I tend to stick…

I’m enjoying this pattern, it is a project that is handy to carry along, and easy enough to knit while chatting.

Glamshell shawl

???????????????

My Glamshell shawl is cursed! The border, 3rd time of tinking, This is a truly simple pattern that I decided to enlarge…It’s me! Resorting to safety lines, multiple safety lines! The last 20 rows are taking 60 rows to knit o_O

Useful technique: Having knit myself into a corner on my shawl. There was no graceful way to join and darn in the ends on the new ball of yarn. I remembered a link from my Facebook Knitting Group on

Foots First Sox

Meanwhile I took a break to work on my oldest wip.

Wonderful Weds: Beavering away

It's hot!

Remember -28c, we are having +28c here in Canada.

Basically from this

Today is a balmy 21c.

So my Kal has switched to smaller cooler projects.

July Kal: (2) All washed up washcloth, I think I’ll make a few more.

Glamshell shawl is coming along nicely after a little frogging. I decided that I wanted a larger version of this shawl. So I added several repeats and played with the number of  stitches. Hope to be done sometime next week.

Garden update: Ok, I woke up from a nightmare earlier this week, DH was digging up the big tree in the back yard! I got up and headed downstairs for breakfast. Walking past the front window, double take…Leopold the miniature lilac tree, was wearing a Birkenstock/ clown shoe! DH was creating a garden while I slept. He is looking for German order, unlike the happy abundance of the rest of our gardening endeavours. Some reshaping of this garden may be required :0)

The Scrap Jar for June

???????????????????

My house is the home of the World Cup fan club. At one point our car was covered with little flags, we are down to one.  My DH is so pleased the German flag is still there. Having told you this, I wanted to pass along a funny Minions clip about the World CupIf you don’t watch soccer you may not get it, but it’s funny anyway :0)
