FO Friday: A really useful thing!

FOfriday

Good Morning all!

Hey, 25,000 views! whoohoo!

I’ve had visitors from all over, from Australia to the Ukraine and even a visitor from Cyprus! The list of followers is growing too. Thanks for your support and validation! I will endeavour to inprove improve both my spelling and my content. My Blogs anniversary is coming up on January 22, watch for a treat!

S

Meanwhile I continue to stashbust the little balls of leftover sock yarn in my stash tin!

I made 3 of these Yarn Ball Cosies. I tried the plastic mash ones, these are so much better!

Y

Yarn Ball Cosy

(

I like to pull my yarn from the centre of the ball, needless to say this becomes a mess when the centre finally collapses. The Large one takes about 14gms, Small one about 12gms of fingering or sock yarn. I made mine 4″ long. The red one is a small ball the others are the large size.

Can you tell I really like these handy little cosies?

Can you tell I really like these handy little cosies?

Did you see this on Ravelry: I am going to start linking things I see on Rav that appeal to me and that you might have missed. This week A Better Bucket by Amy Swenson. Tina at Soper Creek yarns made this. It was so much nicer than the picture!

Book of the week: The Complete World of Jane Austen by Lauren Nixon

DH gifted this to me at Christmas. What an interesting little book, full of details, and snipets on Austens live and times, pictures of places that informed her work. The tidbits on fashion, her family and overviews of her works though brief, were interesting.

I would recommend it if you are a Regency fan and particularly of Jane Austen

FO Friday: Twas the Last post before Christmas

FOfriday

I have to admit I am hopeless about sending Christmas Cards!

So this year I am going virtual.

This will likely be the last post before New Years.

Merry Christmas

Happy news! MiL is no longer stoned (as my DH pronounced to his mother, always the good and thoughtful son that he is :0)

The ERCP procedure worked a dream, 3rd times the charm. She is free and clear of Gallbladder, stones and all for the first time since last January. Now she can actually enjoy Christmas dinner.                              The best Christmas gift for us all!

I have a sweet treat for you.

Here is a fast and super easy recipe for Mincemeat Squares

an old Christmas favourite from my mother’s family.

2 cups Graham Cracker Crumbs

1 1/2 cups Mincemeat

15 oz can Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk

Mix ingredients together, Bake in well-greased 9″x 12″ pan

on 350F for 30 mins. Cool then Cut.

chop candied cherry and decorate top with a small piece.

I finish the Picot edged baby blanket

P

It was a good fast and practical baby blanket to knit. I recommend this pattern. This basic blanket was lovely and warm on my legs as I knit it and will be a good stroller or car seat blanket. I used 2 balls of Northern Worsted, knitting the first ball expanding to the 1/2 way point and finished the 2nd ball reducing to the end.

During my travels Christmas Shopping, I hit the Dollar Store (a chain of stores in Canada, that has most items in the $1 – $2 dollar range, think up scale five & dime) to get some Christmas wrap and stocking stuffers. I lucked out!

FOfriday

Well, this week has been a total disaster! Missed Craft goup, Knittin club, Physiotherapy, and looks like I will not be going to the St. Georges craft sale or church on Sunday. Since I married 28yrs ago, I have been sick 21 times at Christmas :0(

If you have an opportunity, stop by The St. Georges Craft Sale in on Mill st. in Newcastle Ontario Canada. It will be on from 10 – 2:00.

So this is all I got done this week sniff!

FO Friday: Finally, the finish line! Almost!

Hello all, yet another busy week.

It began with the a visitors on Saturday, out of town Christening on Sunday, trips to the vet, craft group, physio, Advent study, and knitting lots of knitting.

The Ladies knitting and crocheting, I need to get a picture of the quilters too. This is the only photo I have, sorry girls.

The plans for the Craft sale are well on the way. The signs are up and ads are in the papers. The ladies are making last minute items, and arranging for baked goods. We are still raising funds for a wheelchair ramp into our 157 yr old church hall.

Saturday December 8th, from 10 – 2:00 at St Georges Church, Newcastle Ontario Cda. Please come if you can.

I don’t know what happened since wednesday,

life got in the way and I didn’t get done half of

what I intended. Even this post was a last minute

effort, for which I apologize.

FO Friday: Not Just Red!

My theme this week was Christmas red. It was entirely unplanned, but that’s how it goes.  I am still working on Washcloths, I’ve made 4 so far and have about 9 more to do. The Honey/Ginger/Lemon production was limited this week as I ran out of Honey. I must think of a name for this concoction…

Sad to say that “Diablo II” is interfering with my knitting. DH installed it on the Laptop and I have been on a campaign to make the country side safe for settlers .

(and yes gaming can rot your brain and stiffen your fingers)

Meanwhile back to the knitting, and making things!

Cabled Feather Cowl

Bright Red Cowl

I highly recommend this cowl pattern, it was a pleasure to knit

Another washcloth

Reversible texture Washcloth, it is a really fast, easy, and a free washcloth pattern :0)

This is the 2nd, one of these I have knit, for a quick gift.

 Blissful Moss Rib dishcloth #1

This isn’t exactly red, another easy freebie pattern :0)

I also made a few jars of “Lemon, Ginger, Honey” for tea and sore throats, or just in hot water or for flavouring in tea.

For tea when there are sore throats or enjoy in cold weather. I also added the lemon juice from the stubs of the lemons.

Note that 2 have red seals and 2 green seals!

Book of the week: I have finally finished listening to

“Lord of the Rings” on YouTube.

Here are the all the links to the complete audio book,

Part 1 to 6,   Part 7 to 9.2

  Part 10, Part 11, Part 12  and Part 13 (of 13)

Now we have finished  “The Lord of the Rings” and since “The Hobbit” is coming out soon, I think we’ll listen to that next.

What a pleasure to knit and listen. Enjoy!

FO Friday: Gifty things

 Welcome all!

Time is growing short, Christmas will be here before you know it. Having reviewed my gift giving list, I may have shortened it however I seems that I am making larger and more complicated ones for those that are left…lol.

I have a plan to make washcloths, and wrap soap in them for stocking stuffers. Last year I made a Christmas balls for each of the family.

The new pattern can be found here.

Features: Toe-up, Spiral Toe, Texture, Spiral afterthought heel, Stretchy cast-off.

Skill required: Super easy, no special sock knitting skills required!

These socks are for my sons Christmas surprise, I have not made him a pair since he was little. He is now in the last year of University.

Funds raised from my sock patterns will be used to help my son pay off University loans.

Book of the week: I have been listening to

“Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers” on YouTube.

Here are the links to the complete book,

“The Fellowship of the Ring” (Part 1 to 6)

FO Friday: Boy, have I been busy!

First things first! Here is the Jar for November!

The Jar Nov 1,2012

I started it last March.

Finally finished the Drop Stitch scarf

I seldom knit scarves anymore, but this one was a great take along project, and the yarn was awesome.

I am finally blocking the Oaklet Shawl

I made a few alterations to this pattern.

I like a more pointed centre line, so I continued the pattern to the centre and reversed it on the other side. If you are going to do this, watch that inc, and dec balance out, or it will not work.

I also purchased an interesting pattern from the LYS, “Turkish Bed socks” it can also be purchased from Ravelry.com

Today’s Music: “Somebody That I Used to Know”Walk off the Earth this is a Canadian group that is doing rather interesting things!
